THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN SPAIN
The Spanish education system is well known among the European school systems. The Irish student participates in class the same as the Spanish classmates.
SCHOOL in Spain
There are three stages in Spanish education:
Primaria (from 6 to 12 years of age)
Secundaria (ESO) from 12 to 16 years of age
Bachillerato, which corresponds to the Leaving Certificate education system (16 to 18 years of age).
The school year in Spain begins around 10 September. The school year is divided into terms.
Classes start every morning between 8:30 and 9:00 am and finish around 5:00 pm. Students often have afternoon activities and spend an important part of their evening on personal work, which can be quite substantial.
The subjects taught at secondary school are those found in most other European countries: Spanish language and literature, foreign languages (mainly English and French, mathematics, history and geography, technology, natural sciences, physical education, music and visual and plastic education (painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and illustration).
School in Spain: The programme
This program offers the opportunity to live with a Spanish family and to attend a Spanish college or high school for one month (except in summer), one term, one semester or one full academic year.
The courses are available for 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th year students,
which corresponds to 1º, 2º, 3º, 4º dela ESO and 1º y 2º de Bachillerato, in Spain.
To access this program, students are required to have a satisfactory academic record and  some basic knowledge of Spanish is helpful. Upon arrival in the Spanish school, the student will receive all the information on the courses, and teachers and tutors will be able to help him/her.
Attendance at all courses, (as well as afternoon activities) is absolutely compulsory. No unauthorised absences are tolerated.

Host family accommodation
Living with a Spanish family allows the student to make the most of his stay in Spain. In addition to practising the language, the student will participate in the life of the family and through this way he/she will be able to discover and integrate the customs of Spanish families.
Students are accommodated in host families carefully chosen by our partner in Spain, and as far as possible will have a child in similar age group to the incoming student.
The young person must adapt to the customs of the family and respect its rules of life. Once the day's classes are over, each student returns to his or her host family. He will share his everyday life.
Outside school life, it is the host family who makes the rules and decisions.
During any outings without the family, it is imperative that the young person informs the family of the place he/she wishes to go, who they will be with, what event they are going to and indicate the time of his/her return and keep them informed of any changes to the planned programme. Host families have authority to decide appropriate rules.
In most cases, lunch is taken at home. Sometimes lunch can take place in the canteen. Very often, transport between school and home is provided by the host family, but the journey may be by foot or by public transport. Many of the host families have a child attending the same school.
The school immersion program is an excellent opportunity for a young person, allowing him/her to master Spanish well, living a unique and enriching experience that will allow him/her to grow and discover a different culture and customs.
