Irish host families are known around the world for their wonderful welcome, their openness, warmth and genuine hospitality.
Our Host Families in Ireland are from varying backgrounds and traditions but all have one feature in common which is their genuine welcome for their foreign students and their Irish failte extended so freely to strangers and visitors. Many of our Irish Host families are traditional families (mother-father-children), but we also have are single-parent families, young couples, retired couples and people who live alone (mostly women). We match our incoming students with a family suited to their profile, and this is a major part of the success of our service.
Some families host on a regular basis, some host just when it is convenient for them, for the pleasure of hospitality, or to do something useful during their holiday.
Our Host Family profiles are very diverse: teachers who offer hospitality and language tuition to students in their own home environment; mothers at home willing to accommodate other children; single people happy to share their favourite hobby with a guest; older students ready to welcome foreign young visitors during their holiday time, retired couples pleased to share their daily life and the knowledge they have of their area; and so on.
The one thing they all agree on is that hosting is a rewarding experience for both host family and visiting students and enriches the lives of all linguistically, culturally, academically and professionally.
