Study Spanish and enjoy a complete Spanish language immersion with a student exchange program in Spain. With a Spanish student exchange, you choose when you want to travel and how long you will stay.
Students live with a carefully selected host family, and experience the life, culture and language of Spain through complete immersion. If you opt to travel during term time you will attend a local Spanish secondary school and make even more rapid progress in the Spanish language.
The culture and lifestyle of the Spanish, their creativity and enthusiam for life make it a great destination for second level students.
An exchange programme gives young students the opportunity to discover Spain, its way of life and its culture, while improving their language skills. Ideal for Transition Year students, it is available throughout the academic year. Students live with their exchange family, they experience the life of a typical Spanish teenager.
Exchanges are available for a minimum of 2 weeks up to the full academic year, this is the best way to experience the Spanish way of life, achieve fluency and become more independent and mature young adults. Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
Your child will return home with improved fluency, more confidence and memories that will last a life time and with an improved CV and enhanced employement opportunities. They will have achieved something which sets them apart and ahead in their field.
Some reasons for doing an exchange...
The importance of learning other languages is sometimes overlooked or not fully appreciated by us. We speak English and when we travel we generally find that English is highly valued and widely spoken abroad , at least enough to enable us to get by without making too much adjustment.
However if we move outside tourist areas or find ourselves in a work situation abroad thats when we have to fall back on what we have retained from school or resort to Google Translate.
School leavers and graduates increasingly need to have a command of at least one other language, beyond English and Irish, not only to secure employment abroad but also to compete for jobs at home where the global nature of business is developing all the time.
For teenagers Transition Year offers a great opportunity to use time to improve language competence by staying abroad for some weeks with a host family on a student exchange. A homestay alone or some weeks in school abroad while living with a host family as part of an exchange gives students a total immersion among native speakers of a language. It increases fluency and will leave students relaxed and confident when approaching their oral exams.
No other learning method is as successful as the 'Total immersion' method. Indeed it was the method used by the British Army in the last century to learn Japanese, a notoriously difficult langiage for westerners!!
Exposure to a foreign language by spending some weeks immersed among native speakers is invaluable at a time when the ability to speak at least one other foreign language has never been more important for job-seekers.
Our exchanges range from 10 days to six months, each exchange is individually tailored to meet the needs of the student.
The educational and cultural enrichment offered by student exchange experience is second to none. The hundreds of young people who take part in student exchange program each yearhave the time of their lives. They see the world from a new perspective, gain understanding of a foreign culture, and their host family becomes their ‘second family’ as lifelong friendships and bonds are formed.
Language learning opportunities are rich as you are now experience a new language, living the language, totally immersed in a new culture and environment. Because you’re practising all day, learning new things, and sharing every day activities and not speaking English, you learn faster and without realising how much you’ve learned.
Many of our exchange families will also help you to organise a local language course to complete your student exchange overseas program.
